Born in Hawaii but was raised near Vancouver, Neil went on to study Electrical Engineering at the University of British Columbia located in Vancouver, Canada. He completed coop work terms in Vancouver and Japan.
Neil concluded his degree with a life changing computer security project. An in depth security analysis of a 'secure' smart card laundry system unveiled a new vulnerability which allowed for free laundry. This vulnerability was presented at DEFCON 18 and, since then, he has actively focused his self-study on web development and computer security.
Today, Neil calls himself a web developer, security enthusiast, Linux lover, and full stack hacker in training.
Cheatsheets and blogs on the old neilpahl.com site discuss a wide variety of topics. However, updates slowed to a halt after Neil's small business, NP-X Solutions, had been formed.
A new blog is currently under development.
