Born in Hawaii but was raised near Vancouver, Neil went on to study Electrical Engineering at the University of British Columbia located in Vancouver, Canada. He completed coop work terms in Vancouver and Japan.
Neil concluded his degree with a life changing computer security project. An in depth security analysis of a 'secure' smart card laundry system unveiled a new vulnerability which allowed for free laundry. This vulnerability was presented at DEFCON 18 and, since then, he has refocused his professional growth towards software (mostly web) development, and computer security.
Today, Neil calls himself a husband, dad, web developer, security enthusiast, *nix lover, and any-stack hacker in (eternal) training.
Created on 4 Feb, 2015 Neil's blog now lives at: https://808.ninja
His Old Blog/Hompage (now https://archived.neilpahl.com) has some Cheatsheets and blog posts, but updates slowed to a halt after Neil's I.T.consulting business, NP-X Solutions, had been formed. After a 2 year hiatus, blogging began again on the above mentioned blog site(808.ninja).
